Midi-Pyrenees Feature : Luxurious & romantic places to stay in Toulouse

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and it is a great time to visit Toulouse. Crisp mornings, great views thanks to wintry trees and no summer crowds allow you the perfect opportunity to claim ‘La Ville Rose’ as your own and fall in love with it.

Clients are always asking me for personal recommendations for places to stay and so I make it my business to ensure I try out places before I make endorsements. So come visit and let these establishments seduce you from the inside before Toulouse works its magic outside. They are all ideally situated for exploring the city centre.

Les Loges de Saint Sernin

www.leslogesdesaintsernin.com

12 rue Saint-Bernard, Toulouse

05 61 24 44 44

There are 4 large, beautifully decorated, double rooms available in this B&B housed in an 19th Century town house, all of which are named after Toulouse landmarks. Sumptuous fabrics combine with wonderful decor and an oh-so-personal touch that help transport you into another world from the very moment you step over the threshold.  It was lovely to find a kettle (so often lacking I find in French establishments), tea bags & water in our room and the chocolates we discovered on arrival were a lovely touch.

Sylviane’s homemade jam collection is astounding. For breakfast there was a choice of 8 mouth-watering flavours to try: the kiwi & ginger was particularly sublime when lathered on a slice of fresh, crusty baguette & a hot buttery croissant was the perfect base for her strawberry heaven. Sylviane herself is a perfect hostess, full of information on all things Toulouse & has a wonderful library corner available to guests. She’s only too pleased to provide you whatever information you require & will happily chat with you over breakfast table.

The Lofts

www.theloftstoulouse.com

76 allee Jean Jaurès, Toulouse

05 81 31 17 40

The Lofts offer 12 very generously sized, uniquely designed & fully serviced apartments - comprising living, cooking, dining, bathing & sleeping areas - that are in a league of their own. A contemporary and sophisticated concept they afford thoroughly modern, high end finishes & style. The design ethos is based around maximising both light & space and the overall result is high-end urban chic.

Complimenting the accommodation are the wide ranging personal concierge services. The talents of Heather & and her team ensure that your every need is catered for: whether it’s for a personal chef or speciality meals, chauffeur services, shopping advisors or something completely different they’re only to happy to help.

As its name implies the Lofts are high up, in fact to the wonderful extent that they provide unparalleled views of Toulouse outside. I can honestly say that the best panoramic view of Toulouse I’ve had the pleasure to enjoy was from the Penthouse at the Lofts at night. Together with a glass of chilled white wine & delicious appetisers locally sourced by Heather it made for a very special moment indeed.

Le Clos des Potiers

www.le-clos-des-potiers.com

12, rue des Potiers, Toulouse

05 61 47 15 15

On a quiet street with courtyard parking available, this stylish 3 star ‘boutique hotel meets B&B’ is housed in a private town house dating from the second Empire. It offers 8 stunning rooms, including 2 suites and simple, traditional, elegance is at its best here. Modern touches compliment antique pieces to provide a relaxing yet definitely bourgeois atmosphere.

Run by Pierre & Corrine Faux - who by the way did the interior decor – they offer a haven of tranquillity and aim to provide a blend of confidentiality and familiarity without compromising either. We appreciated their approach - discreet but then as if by magic appearing just when we needed them - a true hotelier skill in itself. The luxuriously, decorated guest lounge with its well spaced tables for 2, coupled with a tantalising selection of breakfast treats transforms the meal into a real experience that you are encouraged to linger over.
