Another day of strikes in France against the changes to pensions
The unions in France are holding another day of protest against planned changes to the pension system here in France. The unions claimed that the strike on 7 September was a great success with huge support and Thursday is likely to see a repeat of that.
Public sector workers in the following areas are expected to strike on 23 September:
SNCF – Complete train network affected
RATP – Paris transport
Airports – Air traffic controllers
Public transport – Busses and trams etc
Schools
La Poste and France Telecom
Hospitals
France Television and Radio France
EDF / GDF – electricity and gas supplies
Mayor, council offices and tax offices
It is not known how many will take part, but the last strike, at the beginning of the month saw the unions claiming that 2.7 million workers had taken part. With the government having now approved the bill to increase the pension age to 62, the unions will be hoping for a bigger turnout and greater disruption.
Also, as the dispute escalates, unions are calling on private sector workers to support the strikes and take part in demonstrations in cities across France.
If you are travelling on Thursday by public transport or on the airlines, it would be advisable to contact the relevant company now to gauge the affect on your plans.
