TweetThis year is set to be one of the worst for abandoned animals in France and Midi-Pyrenees
This year has seen a sharp increase in the number of animals being abandoned and the Midi-Pyrenees are no exception. The shelters are full to bursting and there is a lack of people wanting to adopt the animals.
The problem appears to be caused by the recession. Animals have an annual cost to look after them and when money is tight often the pets are the first thing to suffer. This also has the affect that there are less volunteers to adopt the animals, meaning that space is limited at rescue centres across the country.
The recession is also partly to blame for an increase in people leaving France to return to their native countries, again with animals sometimes just left behind to fend for themselves.
Another symptom of the recession is a lack of funding and donations. Again, with money and work in short supply, giving money to charities always suffers.
The lucky ones get taken to the rescue centres that will usually take an animal even if they really do not have the room.
Please take a look at our charities page, listing many animal charities in the Midi-Pyrenees and if you think you can help, either through adopting an animal or volunteering, then please get in touch. It would be very much appreciated.
Many of the unwanted pets are advertised in our classified adverts, so please take a look there. We also have some pet and animal discussion groups in our forum for help and advice on adopting and looking after animals.
