Description:
Disabled armed forces veteran in charity trek across the Pyrenees
Tweet
A team of fundraisers from the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency (SPVA) based in Gosport, Hampshire is going to retrace the steps of those escaping from Nazi-occupied France during the Second World War.
The route follows a treacherous path across the Pyrenees Mountains, which was originally established for people trying to reach North Africa to join the Free French Forces.
The team from the SPVA will be accompanied by Don Planner who was blinded by a fuel tank explosion in 1975 while serving with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
The team start their challenge on 20th September and will be fully self-sufficient, carrying all their own supplies.
The designated charity is St Dunstans, which supports blinded servicemen and women and they have so far raised £3,465 of a £5000 target. Please help if you can by visiting their just giving page.
