Jet2 launches new Manchester to Brive scheduled flight

Jet2 is offering the first scheduled flights from Manchester to Brive, which are due to start in the summer of 2011.

The route should prove very popular, giving easy access to the Dordogne and north of the Midi-Pyrenees.  Prices will start from £39.99 each way, including taxes.

Brive airport is building on its successful launch earlier this year, adding to current flights offered by Air France to Paris and London City.  The Manchester flight will be more attractive to holiday makers and home owners in the area as Jet2 will be more competitive on price than the Air France routes.

The new service will operate twice a week from May to September, aimed squarely at the tourist market.  Whether the airline will extend this in the future to cater for the growing commuter market between France and UK is unclear, but with Jet2’s target market being holiday makers, it is probably unlikely.

There are many fantastic locations in the Midi-Pyrenees, which are very close to the Brive airport :

• Rocamadour – A small village set on a dramatic cliff edge receives over one million visitors each year.
• Cahors – The capital of the Lot Department, Cahors has much to offer the visitor, with it’s famous Black Wine, the Valentre bridge and many ld buildings in the town.
• Saint Cirque Lapopie – Listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Saint Cirque Lapopie has narrow cobbled streets and a thriving artist community.
