Wine tasting at Domaine de Sedouprat in the Gers

 

Nick Patrick who runs the vineyard at Domaine de Sedouprat, held a free wine tasting and hog roast on Thursday 19th August and I went along to have a chat and sample the wine.

 

This was the second year that Nick had run the event, with around eighty visitors last year, Nick was hoping for a larger crowd this year and I don’t think he was disappointed.  I would guess there were closer to one hundred, who all seemed to be enjoying the wine and spit roasted pork.

 

On offer for the tasting were;

 

  • Colombard 2009
  • Rose 2008
  • Red 2007
  • Reserve red 2004
  • Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

 

I can not claim to be any kind of wine connoisseur, but like most people I can tell the difference between something that sells for 1€50 in Lidl and something a little more upmarket.  However, I was extremely surprised to see that the prices for Nick’s wines were very good and much cheaper than I was expecting. 

 

Following the tasting I was even more impressed with the value his wines represent, costing just 3€50 for the Colombard, Rose and 2007 Red.  In fact I was so impressed I bought a mixed case with four of each!

 

The roast pork was also going down well and by eight o’clock most of it had been eaten along with the delicious relishes and side dishes.

 

Despite the rather damp weather, a good crowd attended this second free wine tasting and I think a good few cases of wine were bought, making it worthwhile for Nick.  I hope there are plans for a repeat next year with perhaps a couple of related stands to grow the event.  Guide2MidiPyrenees would certainly like to attend in the future, despite the near two hour trip each way.


Thanks must go to Nick and all his supporters and helpers for making the event go smoothly.  A good evening was had by all I think.

Nick Patrick

 

Nick studied Oenology and Viticulture in New Zealand where he was trained and gained some invaluable work experience at Cloudy Bay.  He was then employed as the head winemaker for Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking giving him more great experience, producing wine in the challenging UK market.
