Bed and Breakfast holidays in the Midi-Pyrenees region

In France, bed and breakfasts are called chambres d’hotes and offer a very similar service to that provided by B&B’s in the UK. 

There is another type of accommodation called table d’hotes, the difference being that half board and sometimes full board will be available.  Table d’hotes literally means the hosts table.

As in the UK the standard of accommodation can vary widely, and so it is worth researching your chosen bed and breakfast as much as possible to ensure it meets your needs.

The breakfast served in most chambres d’hotes will be fairly simple but delicious bread, croissant and preserves.  You may also be offered pain au chocolate and even cake.  You will definitely be given coffee and although the French do drink tea, it is not usually of the breakfast variety we are used to in the UK.  With the number of British owned and run chambres d’hotes increasing all the time, you may find some that offer an English breakfast, but they are fairly rare.

With regard to the evening meals offered at table d’hotes, it will most likely be a set menu, often of four courses and will usually include wine.  They are normally very good value and it is usual for the hosts to eat with their guests in French run establishments.  The British are less used to this idea and you will probably find that a British run table d’hotes may ask if you want to eat with them or separately.

There are many great chambres d’hotes in the Midi-Pyrenees, for example the Ancient Ecole, a British run accommodation near to Cazaux Villecomtal in the Gers department.  Nearby is the small town of Marciac that each year in August holds one of the greatest jazz festivals in Europe, attracting artists and visitors from all over the world.

On the other side of the Gers department is the Monplaisir Monblanc chambres d’hotes, where you will receive a very warm welcome from Yvonne and Mike.  Ideally situated to explore the rural tranquil of the Gers and also close enough to Toulouse to experience the largest city in the Midi-Pyrenees.
