Description:
French petrol refinery workers strike continues, causing shortages in Toulouse.
Workers at Total petrol refineries have been on strike for the past six days, preventing oil and fuel supplies entering the companies refineries. This is now beginning to have an effect, with stocks running low at some garages.
The dispute is over the threatened closure of Total’s Dunkirk plant in northern France. Total is Europes largest oil refiner and supplies over half of Frances 12,500 petrol stations. Despite this, the company insists that only one hundred have been affected with partial shortages.
The two sides are due to resume talks on Tuesday 23 February, but while the negotiations are being dragged out, motorists are beginning to stock up on fuel in case of real shortages.
Hopefully tomorrows meeting will bring a quick end to the dispute, but Guide2Midi-Pyrenees will bring you the result of the talks as soon as they are available.
