Charity cake sale in aid of Help for Heroes, in Boulougne-sur-Geese, Haute-Garonne, Midi-Pyrenees.

Kingdom Vegetale is holding a charity cake sale in Boulougne-sur-Geese on 13^th March 2010.

This is a truly worthwhile charity, which as an ex serviceman myself, I wholeheartedly support. 

All donations of cakes and biscuits etc will be most gratefully received, and if cake making isn’t your thing, come along and support by buying a cake or two.

Some details on the Help for Heroes Charity.

Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to help the wounded Servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. The message of the charity is simple: We are strictly non political and non critical; we simply want to help. We believe that anyone who volunteers to serve in time of war, knowing that they may risk all, is a hero. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things and some of them are living with the consequences of their service for life. We may not be able to prevent our soldiers from being wounded, but together we can help them get better.

We spend every penny possible on making grants that aim to provide practical, direct support for our wounded. The grants that we have made so far are outlined in the table below with further information about each grant available beneath the table.

Our current focus is for grants to create a series of regional Recovery Houses to be built across the UK and serve as the last stage of rehabilitation before a serviceman, or woman, returns to their unit or transits back into civilian life. Our current target for this is to raise £20 million by October 2010 and while the support has been amazing, there is still a way to go.

We do, of course, have running costs but for our first year we kept these so low that 98p from every £1 donated was available for grants and we aim to continue operating at a similar level.
