Description:
Two new routes from Cork to the West of France and Spain have been proposed.
An as yet unnamed ferry company, in conjunction with the Port of Cork have put forward proposals to create two new ferry routes.
One route is planned to go to Northern Spain while the other route is to a port on the French Atlantic coast in the Bay of Biscay. The new routes are part of the Port of Cork Company’s involvement with the EU project, Motorways of the Sea which is aimed to reduce the cost and environmental damage caused by long road journeys.
Final details are yet to be released, but it is hoped that the services will be operational before the summer season. Santander is a possible Spanish port link as the P&O ferry service to the port will cease at the end of this season, leaving just Brittany ferries with a route to Bilbao.
