The Midi-Pyrenees region of South West France is a very rural region where agriculture and food production has always been an important factor in the economy.  This has changed little over the decades and meant that the soaring prices of other more familiar departments such as Dordogne has had little affect here.

This is changing however and the British market is waking up to the fact that the Midi-Pyrenees offers the traditional French life style that many crave and property prices that are some of the lowest in France.

The Pyrenees Mountain ski resorts have always been the play ground of the French, with very little interest from the British market, which concentrated on the Alps.  With prices in the Alps departments ski high, interest has shifted to the Pyrenees and the British interest is on the up. 

Ski resorts are not just about winter sports, although that is very important part of their season.  To survive in the changing world they have had to diversify and are actively targeting the mountain bikers, climbers and walkers that you see filling the valleys and mountains of the Alps.  The Pyrenees already has a strong road cycling tradition with the Tour de France. 

This makes funding your new purchase more viable, as the potential rental market now stretches across two seasons.  I know of one Guide2MidiPyrenees site member that is achieving forty-two weeks of occupation per year in her Bagneres de Luchon apartment!

Buying a holiday home anywhere involves a great deal of research and financial commitment.  The best advice is to take your time, see as many properties you can and generally get a feel for the area you intend to buy in.  That may be stating the obvious to some, but I expect everyone knows somebody who has made a snap decision and bought the first property they saw!  It may be the perfect home in the perfect location, but taking your time is going to make this more likely.
