Description:

The aim of the association is to preserve the village life without turning the village into a theme park or a soulless empty museum.  The intention is to ensure the villages survive as a lively functioning centre and try to prevent the mass exodus from the countryside that has seen the decline of so many villages.

The association strategy has three main strands;

Quality : There is a 30 point check of quality during the initial selection process and a selected village must sign the quality charter,  to ensure it maintains the standards expected of the association.

Reputation : The reputation of the villages is maintained through the high quality image of the association and its registered trademark.

Development : The listed villages must continue to develop both the village structure plus its economy and activities, to ensure it always meets the associations standards.

The selection process is very rigorous and involves four distinct steps.

Application : The village application is inspected to ensure it meets the associations requirements.

On-site evaluation : The village is visited by the committee and a meeting held with the mayor.

Quality committee : The Quality committee reviews the evidence gathered and is the deciding power as to whether a village obtains a listing.

Quality charter : The selected village must sign a quality charter to ensure that it maintains and actively develops the village and its economy.
