Description:
Bagneres de Luchon is another small spa town of the Pyrenees. There are no real attractions in the town, apart from the spa resort, but the main reason to go to the town would be to use it as base for exploring the area. Also, there is a direct gondola lift from the centre of the town to the ski resort of Superbagneres. The lift runs during both summer and winter, allowing easy access for walkers and skiers alike.
The town has a pretty main thoroughfare, the Allées d'Étigny, which is tree lined giving welcome shade in the summer and has a large number of bars and restaurants down both sides. At the end of this road lies the spa and thermal springs.
Being close to many of the routes used by the Tour de France, it is popular with cyclists wanting to attempt the various mountain climbs in the area. Mountain biking is also popular here and there is bike guide organisation in the town.
It is a great base for exploring this end of the Pyrenees Mountain with a chain of mountain lakes just a little further south from the town, although visiting them involves quite a walk.
In additiion, the Spanish border is just a short drive away through the Col Du Portillon to Bossost and for a full day out it is possible to drive in to Andorra and back.
