Geography
Sauveterre de Rouergue is located south west of Rodez in the conservation area known as Le Segala in the Aveyron department of Midi-Pyrenees. It is a thirteenth century bastide, built around a large arcaded square and is listed by the Plus Beaux Villages de France.
Tourism
The town is built on the traditional grid plan of a bastide and offers the visitor one of the most intact fortified villages to explore.
Surrounded by arcades, stone and half wooden buildings, the cobble and gravel square is enclosed by fortified gates that lead off to cobbled streets.
Economy
The main economy comes from three areas, tourism, arts and crafts, and agriculture.
Transport
Access to the Sauveterre de Rouergue is limited to a car as there is no train station and during the summer just one bus a week bringing visitors.
The nearest airport is Rodez, but Toulouse is just a little further and offers a far wider selection of destinations.
