Description:
Tarbes, the capital of the Bigorre, has little to offer the tourist except as a base for exploring the Pyrenees. The town is known as the gateway to the Pyrenees and justifiably so.
As for things to do in the town, there is a large park, Jardin Massey off rue Massey, and in the middle of the gardens lies the Musee Massey, with sections on fine arts and local archaeology. There is also the birthplace of Marshall Foch, which is now a museum to commemorate his life and the renowned stud farm, Les Haras, which gives guided tours.
The town offers all the facilities you could want and although lacking in any real tourist appeal, makes a great location for accessing all that the mountains have to offer. There is also a regional airport which is shared with Lourdes. It mostly handles charter flghts, taking pilgrims to the religious sites at Lourdes.
