Blooming Midi-Pyrenees weather!!

What's up with the weather?

We have only lived in France for about fourteen months, so this is only our second Spring.  what has struck me is the dramatic swings in weather and temperature over the past couple of months.
Hautes-Pyrenees in May 2010
You expect April to be showery, but we had complete contrasts from beautiful days with temperatures in the mid twenties, followed by days where the temperature fell to freezing or below!

Moving in to May, I was expecting the sun to come out and stay out.  What a shock I was in for!  On the fourth of May we awoke to a lovely Christmas scene!!  We even had to put the heating back on!  In more remote areas, the high winds and heavy snow caused serious disruption and power cables were brought down.

As we have marched ever onward to June, the average temperatures have slowly increased and the boiler and woodburner are having a well deserved rest.  Some days have been scorching, while evening temperatures fell to low single figures again.

Is this the norme for Spring in the Hautes-Pyrenees?  If so, I might have to move closer to the Med!

An acquaintance, that has lived here a while, said that May is always awful.

I would love to be told that this year has been exceptionally bad and we should have glorious sunshine from the beginning of May onwards.  Or is it global warming?

I don't know, do you?
